AI Strategy Belongs to the Whole C-Suite—Not Just the CTO

When ChatGPT and other generative AI tools entered the mainstream, many CEOs understandably turned to their CTOs or CIOs. But that’s no longer enough. AI is now a whole-business issue, with implications for everything from customer experience to strategy, HR, and ethics.
In Deloitte’s 2024 State of AI in the Enterprise report, 79% of “AI-fueled” organizations said cross-functional leadership was essential to successful adoption. Yet in many boardrooms, AI conversations are still confined to IT.
Why this is a mistake:
Marketing needs to understand AI’s impact on content, engagement, and personalization.
Operations must prepare for automation and new efficiencies.
Finance must model AI’s cost-benefit in real time.
HR has to rethink skills, roles, and culture.
AI strategy shouldn’t be technical—it should be transformational. CEOs who integrate AI into every function, not just the tech stack, will lead in the next economy.
